Transmission Log - Orestes

Navy’s been acting a bit…weird. I don’t know if it’s my fault or not. I think it might be, but I really don’t know what to do now to make it better.

It all started with my mother. She finally took the plunge and actually removed some of her precious crystals. She brought them back to Orestes to ‘research’. She spent a while trying to find rational ways to remove them without causing damage, but in the end she gave up and just took a hacksaw to a bunch.

Navy came across her cadavers in the laboratory the following day. Their colour had changed. They were all washed-out, sort of like a black and white movie from centuries ago.

He went crazy, he started shouting at her about how she had mutilated a beautiful living organism, how she was just a pseudo scientist like the rest of them.

She argued back, saying that they would never understand the crystals fully without critical, scientific investigation.

But, I knew she didn’t really believe that. Both Navy and I understood her real reason for taking them. She wanted to find a way to directly extract their narcotic elements. She’s been on edge recently. She seems like someone who’s body has built up too much of a tolerance for their drug of choice.

I didn’t tell Navy this, but the previous night, I has found her grinding down one of the crystal shards. God knows what she was going to do with that powder.

Anyway, after the whole argument, I went to check on Navy. He was in the cafeteria, his head resting in his hands. I approached him softly and put my hand on his shoulder. He winced and pulled back at first, but then fell into my arms sobbing. I told him it wasn’t anything to worry about, that there were plenty of crystals out there now. He said that wasn’t why he was crying. Then, he pulled back and looked me in the eye. All I saw was loneliness. He started to lean toward me as if he was going to kiss me, but I made an excuse and got out of there, fast.

I was so confused, and a little angry. I had always liked Navy, he was like an uncle to me. I still do like him, but I’ve started viewing some of his actions in the past differently.

I decided not to talk to him for a while, to give him his space. Turns out, he seems to have had the same idea. He’s been avoiding me ever since.
