====================================================================== Title: Different Date: 2024-04-08 Link: https://spool-five.com/poetry/2024_apr08_different/ Word Count: 201 ====================================================================== > Finally, our (optional) prompt for the day takes its inspiration from > Laura Foley’s poem “Year End.” Today, we challenge you to write a poem > that centers around an encounter or relationship between two people (or > things) that shouldn’t really have ever met – whether due to time, space, > age, the differences in their nature, or for any other reason. As our palms touched for the first time Reaching across icy air I felt the spark of familiarity and delight The retreat of despair Crackled in the static night I felt then as I feel every time I look into your jewel eyes That we had already met many times In a previous life Or as a clock chimes One evening while out for a stroll Both younger then and alone Soft light, reflections caught well And echoed footsteps on stone Oh well Perhaps we passed one another unknowingly And something of the scent or impression Stayed in the mind until later years Released finally as a procession Of kisses and joyus tears If I had known you that evening Or in a previous life Would you have seemed different? Or does the spark of familiarity Last throughout all changes?
