Underneath bed, he lay
Trying to feel what it would be like
For tree-roots, or the stoat on display
In the natural history museum

Or was it a feeling of childhood
That was sought. Sounds muffled
From under, under the mother lode
Rocks breathing slowly up and down

Underneath, he lay
And on display
In some diarama
Of hide and seek
