Desert Island
Today’s prompt was to write a poem in the style of Kay Ryan. I didn’t have enough time to fully grasp her style, but she seems like a wonderful poet and I look forward to delving deeper into her work in the future. I couldn’t really emulate her style, but one of her poems,Crustacean Island, was the general inspiration for this one.
A mandolin
a flamingo-pink sky
Ropes for strings
and buckets of salt
for an audience.
The clapping goes
unnoticed
by the player
who is dreaming
of swashbuckling
while frogs croak
a chorus
of bespoke agony
