Blockade

I didn’t go with the ‘prompt’ for today. Ireland is currently in a difficult situation where protests led by farmers in response to rising fuel costs are bringing the country to a halt.

Forget high ideals,
well-established administrative processes
and esteemed sector representatives
New groups are forming, disrupting the political landscape
With tractors, on a break from transforming the land

A demand to be listened to, but no regular place
to fit them in, no open slot in the packed agenda

Queues and blockages all over
A worrisome reminder that this economy
does not run on high ideals,
well established administrative processes
or esteemed representatives
But on the back of a cold, black substance
dug up from the ground
